A little background: I taught myself just enough html code back in '98 to make my own website (in notepad), and have for the most part not touched code except for a tweak now and then on forums that I administer. I am by no means what you would call a programmer.

My wife and I are toying around with starting a photo/graphics business, and we wanted a way to show our photography. I found minishowcase, and felt that it suited our needs.

The first thing my wife asked was for me to put a background image on the page. I finally figured out how to make all the different sections of the page transparent, then I found some code to put a non scrolling image that pretty much fits the screen at all resolutions (for the most part), then found out how to change different font colors for different sections, and how to change the lightbox colors. Whew! If you'd told me two days ago that I would do this, I'd have said you're crazy.

This is what I've done so far.

I run Ubuntu 10.10 (at present), Firefox web browser (but test also on Windows 7 with current I.E.), and do most of my scripting in gedit, because all the php and html etc editors are just totally overwhelming. I get lost in them, but they are good for starting a basic page from scrap if you want to say, Hi there, and put a photo up with some links. (if you can tell, I'm no programmer!)

So, I'll shut up and get down to business. I don't want people to see our full sized images! What I want them to do, though, is to have the opportunity to purchase pictures. Instead of clicking on the image to enlarge it, I would like to know if one can change that link to, "click on the image to purchase it"?

Can this be done? I've looked in every file I can, and I haven't seen anything helpful.

(also, on our website, please understand that today, July 5, 2011, we have just got stuff up there to see how the overall site is working out. On my page (www.ashleystevickphotography.com) I have four images on the index page. Right now they do not link to anything, however, I would like them to link to the exact same places as on the gallery menu. A.K.A, I'd like the portrait image to link to the portrait gallery, the wedding image to link to the wedding gallery, etc.

When I create a simple html link, linking to the permalink address, I find that it links to the proper place in my address bar, but I have to hit the refresh button to make it actually go to the link. I've tried this in both Google Chrome and Firefox.

Is there a way to copy the nifty javascript links in the menu and have them work when someone clicks an image on my index page?

I’m an illustrator and have been using minishowcase on my website for some months now . I love how simple it is to use and modify. It cut down my gallery update time on my website by hours. I have always been wondering though how I can make the showcase load directly to the first gallery on my list and skip the text page? An artist I admire uses minishowcase as well (it’s how I found out about it) and he somehow managed it, here is a link to his site http://gaialot.com/ . When you click on his gallery button the text pops up for a brief second then it loads the first gallery automatically. Ideally I would like to avoid the text all together.

First of all the website I am working on is: www.ashleystevickphotography.com

I've been using Google Chrome mostly, but check my work in both Firefox and IE.

My problem is this. When I click on an image in the gallery it brings up a fullsize image with a navigation bar above that image. I've noticed that both the navigation bar and the title of the fullsize image are covering my header. Is there a way to move the navigation bar to the bottom of the fullsize image, so that I can still see "Ashley Stevick Photography" in the background?

i am trying to get a picture displayed on the front page where it says "Welcome"
when you first land on the main page.
I tried to enter some code in the _info.txt file in the galleries folder.

i am trying this code -

within the body of the _info.txt file. The jpg is uploaded in the same folder. (the galleries)
it is not appearing.

Question:
How do I decrease -- what I'm calling -- canvas creep on thumbnails? Meaning, when the thumbnail engine does its magic, it essentially shrinks the outer perimeter, or the canvas, of the image to minimize degradation of the image quality. (This is the best way I can think of to describe it.) The problem is that my client's site showcases headshots, and many of the persons' heads are getting cut off in the thumbnails. To see a stark example, go to the URL above > 'WOMEN' gallery and locate "Kari". Her head is being cut off in the thumbnail. My temporary workaround is to edit such images and "pad" the canvas (with transparency) in the direction where the person's head is being cut off. This offsets the image so that I can mimic a head-centered thumbnail. :-)

Is there a solution to this where I can simply have the thumbnail engine not trim as much of the image's perimeter?

EXAMPLE: Regular gallery setup, but I want to somehow access information about each image and include that in some stylish manner. Imagine a good way to add: price, dimensions, explanation and links.

THIS IS NOT: Were not talking about adding EXIF or IPTC data from a JPG.

IDEA:

1) I thought that maybe I could build a script that would access a central TEXT.TXT file and get info for each image based on something unique about it's name.

2) The naming convention for the image would include the following. "imagename-number.jpg" so that the PHP script can simply scan the name space and capture anything to the immediate right of the dash. So if the name was "MyFavImage-112.jpg" then the script would have as a reference the number "112".

3) The PHP script would then look at our TEXT.TXT file and scan it for a line that starts with "112". Because the file open command in PHP asks for a specific number of bytes to download we would just set this at a specific maximum and use a special series of characters as line breaks.

4) The data in the TEXT.TXT file would look like the following:

112**
Name: Scent of a woman.**
Description: This is my favorite image of a woman.**
Price: This image is 1 of 25 and priced at $45.**
Author: Scott Church**

5) When output to the gallery we could style this however we like, but I think OPTIMALLY it would be in a DIV overlaying the image in a watermark style.

I did as it stated in the readme file and made the name of the image the description, however I was wondering if anyone has created another way of adding a description to each image and if anyone has moved that description to the bottom instead of the top?

I've had a good pore over the forum and I think what I would like to do is impossible :(

I'd like to be able to upload picture galleries via the site's CMS, and I was trying to figure out how to change the default location of the galleries directory. In an earlier thread (http://minishowcase.net/community/comments.php?DiscussionID=66&page=1#Item_0) you say this is impossible; is that still the case?
